FMA5-V - Horizontal Machining Center
The Tsugami FMA series of machines quickly established itself as the industry standard in integrated pallet pool HMCs when they were first introduced 25 years ago. Five generations of successful upgrades later, it remains the benchmark for semi-attended or unattended operation. Innovations include a vertical bed, “free-flow” chip disposal, heat dispersion, and Tsugami power and accuracy. The machine is also available in a 350 x 330 x 400 mm version, the FMA3-III.
The Benchmark HMC
The FMA5-V Horizontal Machining Center is designed for unattended operation with a resident multi-pallet pool while delivering unparalleled speed and accuracy. Featuring an ATC tool-to-tool time of 1 second with 62 and 126 options available, X/Y/Z traverse rate of 994 IPM, and pallet change time of 20 seconds, this machining center delivers the power, precision, and repetitive performance for true lights-out operations.
The FMA5-V comes with a space-saving vertical-loop pallet system. Each pallet contains a non-contact binary device which can be read by the machine control. This allows for automatic program and tooling calls for each pallet, by each pallet, no operator intervention is necessary.
This Tsugami HMC is also designed to solve two persistent problems in semi-attended or unattended HMC operation: chip disposal and heat dispersion. The trunnion design permits the free flow of chips, with or without an operator. The chips and coolant are also isolated from the machine’s bed, preventing thermal distortion.
